Being yes men of Europe has got Ireland nowhere - The Irish Times - Wed, May 16, 2012
"Colm O'Brien
Unfortunately it could be. To date EU appears to be all about money as the ingredient to unite all. Frankly its dysfunctional, you hang together while making it and leave when you don't. Is that it? The union needs political integration around common values first.
..common values ..first and foremost .. that certainly they are not .. they have never been .. they have nothing to do with money ..
the Europe of the bankers .. have pounded our ears, our eyes, all our senses .. our minds .. that everything .. all ..is about ..money
well .. no .. this is not so .. Europe ..is ..for people .. banks step aside .. enough is enough ..
.. it is time this to sink deep into their heads .. once and for all ..
"Money comes later. Its unclear that the current political structures within are capable of providing that level of leadership or elevating the debate. All too little too late. And the "peace dividend' you refer to is unfortunately provided on the backs of US tax dollars. I pay it. What do Europeans really believe in, or want to be? Until thats answered the rest is muddling and Ireland would do well to keep out of it."
